Orphan Care

An Orphaned Nation

In 2006 Partners in Action began its work in Eswatini by partnering with Challenge Ministries Swaziland to help them acquire and transform the once abandoned mining town of Bulembu into a haven of hope for orphaned and vulnerable children (“OVC’s”). At the time, an estimated 10% of the population was left orphaned and vulnerable due to the HIV/AIDS pandemic that swept away the parental generation. Since then, we have been on a mission to create a self-sustaining town that cares for orphaned and vulnerable children in family-style care.

Raising The Next Generation

Once a thriving mining town, in 2001, the mining company was liquidated and Bulembu was left abandoned. In 2006, God provided the path for the purchase of the 4,200 acres of property that comprise the town and the surrounding land. The property has been purposed to house orphaned and vulnerable children. The community and ministry have been blessed with the business leadership and experience to lead an amazing social venture.

Today, there are almost 400 orphaned and vulnerable children who call Bulembu home. The town is once again, a thriving community with over 800 residents.

Orphan Care

Today, over 54% of the child population of Eswatini are classified as orphaned and vulnerable. In a nation of only 1.2 million there are more than 350,000 Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC). We provide safe, loving homes to as many children as we can afford at Bulembu today.

Bulembu Christian Academy

Bulembu Christian Academy is a private christian school that provides K through 12th Grade education for all the Bulembu children. The classrooms are kept intentionally small so that teachers are able to provide personalized education paths for our children in care.

Restoring A Town

After sitting vacant for so many years, much of the infrastructure in Bulembu became dilapidated. We continue in our commitment to rebuild the town, brick by brick.

Sustainability Enterprises

Essential Oils, Timber, Honey, Bulembu Lodge & Conference Center, Bulembu Dairy, and Bakery are all businesses that we established for the expressed purpose of funding childcare needs, leading to a self-sustaining town.
